Medical Laboratory Tech (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) - Rotational - Laboratory
Medical Technologist Position Summary:
Under general supervision of the Director of Laboratory, the Medical Technologist performs work of moderate to high complexity in the areas of chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, and molecular pathology. The Medical Technologist implements the hospital’s mission, goals, and objectives by exemplifying the short and long term vision, values and goals of the department by providing professional clinical laboratory science services in the department including performance of clinical laboratory examinations, proficiency testing, quality control, professional consultation, instrument maintenance and validation, testing validation, testing management and other functions toward the attainment of these goals. The Medical Technologist may instruct Medical Laboratory Technician students and phlebotomists. The Medical Technologist maintains records of performance as defined in the laboratory’s policy and procedure manuals. The Medical Technician is qualified to perform procedures and interpret results, including phlebotomy, on the following age classifications: neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of medical technology and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience as accepted by the accrediting agencies for registration as a Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist
Experience: Must have considerable knowledge of the underlying scientific principles, as well as the technical and procedural aspects of laboratory testing Must have good knowledge of the physiological, biochemical, immunologic, microbiologic, and genetic factors that affect health and disease, laboratory tests, and the importance of lab tests to medical care Must have theoretic understanding of quality improvement sufficient to enable them to monitor and implement QC programs. Must have good knowledge of management theory and functions Must have good knowledge in the areas of accuracy, precision, normal ranges, and correlation with existing methods Have sufficient sight (including color discrimination), manual dexterity and mobility to function effectively in exercising job responsibilities Must be able to work well and effectively with others Must be able to recognize consequences of error Appreciate patient confidentiality Must be able to cope and deal with stressful situations
Licensure & Certifications: Registered as a Medical Technologist (MT or MLS) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), or equivalent Current verification in Basic Life Support (BLS)

Medical Laboratory Technician Position Summary:
Under general supervision of the Director of Laboratory, the Medical Laboratory Technicican performs laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner according to establish hospital and departmental policies and procedures. The Medical Laboratory Technician is able to perform procedures on the following age classifications: neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric.
Education: Associate's degree from an accredited MLT program and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience as accepted by the accrediting agencies for registration as Medical Laboratory Technician Graduating student must successfully challenge the registry within 12 months of graduation
Experience: Must have the ability to perform medical laboratory procedures in accordance with the policies and protocols in effect Must be familiar with the technology related to practice in the assigned sections Have sufficient sight (including color discrimination), manual dexterity and mobility to function effectively in exercising job responsibilities Must be able to work well and effectively with others Must be able to recognize consequences of error Appreciate patient confidentiality Must be able to cope and deal with stressful situations
