Occupational Therapist - Rehab Services
Position Summary: The Occupational Therapist, under supervision of the Physical Therapy Manager, provides age appropriate and culturally sensitive Occupational Therapy to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Competency is evaluated based on the assessment of the Therapist’s ability to utilize the Occupational Therapy evaluation and treatment techniques in the prevention of and intervention of musculoskeletal and neurological disorders, as well as providing quality care in a professional manner, which will maximize benefit to the patient and enhance the
efficiency and effectiveness of the department while effectively interacting with patients, significant others, and other health team members, while maintaining standards of professional Occupational Therapy.

Basic Qualifications:
Education:
Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Program.

Experience:
One (1) year experience in Occupational Therapy is preferred.
Thorough knowledge of occupational therapy procedures.

Licensure & Certifications:
Current license to practice Occupational Therapy in the State of New Mexico.
Current CPR certification is required.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
-Utilize the Occupational Therapy evaluation and treatment techniques by demonstrating appropriate assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient’s care, as evidenced by patient, staff
and supervisor observation.
-Documents patient care which reflects Occupational Therapy intervention, patient response to care provided, and includes evidence of appropriate patient/significant other education, and the
understanding of these instructions noted in the medical record.
-Implements and documents patient responses to treatments as defined within the scope of the professional Occupational Therapist through the New Mexico State Regulation and Licensing Board and policies of Rehoboth McKinley Christian Healthcare Services.
-Functions a part of an interdisciplinary team with positive interpersonal communication skills when RMCHCS | (Occupational Therapist) communicating with patients, families, visitors, physicians and staff in other departments of the organization.
-Demonstrates priority setting and decision making skills to offer appropriate occupational therapy and support.
-Assumes responsibility for safety, infection control and performance improvement as part of RMCHCS’s
efforts to provide quality care and services, and will perform all duties/tasks focused on that
responsibility.
-Maintain certification/verification in Basic Life Support.
-Maintain current license to practice Occupational Therapy in the state of New Mexico.
-Must have comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of the rehabilitation departments.
-Have considerable knowledge of equipment, maintenance and repair.
-Must be able to follow instructions and interpret results accurately.
-Possess the ability to organize work and assign priorities in treatments.
-Must have considerable knowledge in performing procedures, use of equipment and interpreting quality control data.
-Considerable contact with physicians, nursing personnel, and ancillary staff.
-Frequent contact with outpatients and occasional contact with inpatients.
-Occasional contact with federal and regulatory agencies such as The Joint Commission, and state agencies.
-Occasional contact with schools and patient relatives.

Standards of Performance:
-Demonstrates the RMCHCS Standards of Behavior as measured by peer, supervisor and patient observations.
-Verbalizes all core competencies of the department.
-Demonstrates being a reliable employee as measured by RMCHCS Time and Attendance Policy.
-Demonstrates professionalism as evidenced by maintenance of continuing education consistent with level of practice.
-Demonstrates professional conduct including maintenance of patient, staff and unit confidentiality as measured by valid complaints given to the unit supervisor.
-Demonstrates safety, infection control, and performance improvement as part of daily activities as
evidenced in providing quality care and services to all customers.
-Demonstrates ability to be in compliance for all regulatory requirements including the National Patient Safety Goals as observed by peers, supervisor and all members of the healthcare team.
-Actively participates as a member of the healthcare team by attending a minimum of 75% of the unit staff meetings, employee forums and all mandated in-services.
