Cardiopulmonary


RMCHCS's cardiopulmonary services department offers a comprehensive range of services in one location that includes respiratory and pulmonary diagnosis and care, cardiology services, cardiac rehabilitation and a sleep laboratory. The cardiopulmonary department is located on the second floor of this hospital.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation is a medically supervised program that helps improve the health and quality of life for people with heart problems so they can return to an active lifestyle. RMCHCS' cardiac rehabilitation program is designed for patients with heart disease or patients recovering from a heart attack or heart surgery. Our cardiac nurse specialist and our exercise specialist works with patients to achieve their optimal health through a cardiac monitored individualized exercise program and through education on lifestyle modification that includes a healthy diet, smoking cessation, physical activity and learning how to manage stress.

The cardiac rehabilitation program is located on the second floor of the hospital in the cardiopulmonary department. For an appointment, call RMCHCS at 505-863-6862.

Cardiology Services

Board certified cardiologists are on-site Monday, Wednesday and Friday and offer inpatient and outpatient cardiology consultations and follow-up care. Cardiology services, such as cardiac stress testing, nuclear stress testing, EKG, Holter and Event Monitoring. Cardiology services are provided by Cardiac Care Consultants who offer a continuum of care for patients who are transferred to Albuquerque for a higher level of care. Pediatric Cardiology Services

Children with heart problems are seen by a pediatric cardiologist at College Clinic, by referral from the child's primary care provider.

Pulmonary Services

RMCHCS' pulmonary services are provided by Rajiv A. Patel, MD, he works with patients suffering from chronic respiratory disease to reduce symptoms, decrease disability, increase participation in physical and social activities, and improve the overall quality of life. Pulmonary function testing is used to assess a patient's lung functioning.

Respiratory Therapy

The respiratory therapy department provides diagnostic and therapeutic modalities to assist providers in diagnosing and treating pulmonary disorders. Licensed respiratory therapists work with patients who have trouble breathing; for example, from a chronic respiratory disease, such as asthma or emphysema. They conduct tests to measure lung function and educate patients on how to manage asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder as well as other breathing disorders. RMCHCS' respiratory therapists work closely with the cardiology, pulmonology and sleep medicine providers to provide optimum services for patients. On staff is a certified neonatal pediatric respiratory specialist who is accredited by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association.
