Sleep Disorder Center
RMCHCS’s Sleep Disorder Center offers comprehensive care for patients, (both adult and pediatric) with sleep disordered breathing. Patients are referred to the Center by their primary care provider for an initial evaluation by Dr. Stefan Chimoskey who is board certified in sleep medicine. Patients are asked about symptoms, sleep history, medical history, and any other factors that may contribute to sleep disorders.
If needed, the patient is scheduled for an overnight sleep study, which takes place in the Sleep Disorder Center, located on the second floor of the RMCH hospital. The patient’s sleeping patterns are monitored during sleep and the patterns are studied and evaluated by experienced sleep technicians.
Following the sleep study, the patient will come in for a follow-up appointment to discuss the results of the study. Patients are shown their breathing patterns and how the pattern leads to hypoxemia and disrupted sleep. Treatment options are discussed and recommended. For many patients, the use of a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine is prescribed, the use of which offers the benefit of significantly better sleep.
Sleep study results are faxed to the primary care provider and patients return to the Sleep Disorder Center 4-6 weeks later for another follow-up appointment with Dr. Chimoskey to evaluate how they are doing.
